One of the most common ways of transmitting computer viruses is through file attachments. Outlook makes it simple to share documents and photos from anywhere. That’s why it is important to have all your documents and photos in one place – so you can quickly find, edit, and share on the go.
Attach a photo or file to an email
- You can attach a recent file or a Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, Google Drive file, a file or photo from your device, or take a new photo.

HEIF and High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) are the default file formats for photos and videos on most Apple devices running iOS 11 or later. You may be able to update a setting on your Apple device camera to capture photos and videos in other formats.
Share files and photos with a OneDrive for business link
To move a file using Mac Finder, drag files from the file list in the right pane to OneDrive in the left pane (if you have OneDrive listed there under Favorites). To move a file using Windows File Explorer, drag files from the file list in the right pane to OneDrive in the left pane.

Using File Explorer or Mac Finder to copy or move files to OneDrive
OneDrive for iOS uploads High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) photos in their original format, instead of uploading them as JPG to OneDrive to preserve the image quality of original photos and to save storage space. If you still need help, select Contact Support to be routed to the best support option. After a moment, Finder will switch to show your existing OneDrive files and folders in the right pane, and you can drag the file into the sub-folder of your choice.
How to open HEIF and HEVC files on Windows
The new camera will adjust images so the background isn’t too bright and the words are easier to read. If you save the draft and come back later, and you add another large image, you will be asked again and your choice will apply to all drafts during that editing session. To obtain a sharing link in OneDrive, highlight the file and choose Get Link in the menu bar. If you need to send a file that’s blocked by Outlook, the simplest way to send your superonni file is to upload it to OneDrive or a secure network share server such as SharePoint.

Attach a photo or file to an email
All other attachment types will still act as regular attachments. When you attach an image that’s larger than 1MB to an email, you have the option to compress/resize it. For best performance, there is a size limit to attachments in Outlook for iOS and Android. If you need to receive a blocked file, ask the sender to upload the file to OneDrive or SharePoint and send you a link. We recommend using OneDrive and sending the recipient a link to the file if you need to send one of these file types to an email recipient.
